Friday was……interesting.  I woke up uber late – like 9:30.  Mom and I went to breakfast at the Panera Café (or is it bakery? Oh well.)  I had a piece of cinnamon coffee cake (Yum!!), and a bacon/egg/cheese sandwich.  It was delicious!
We then walked over to the library.  Although the library’s just across the street from the hotel, it was surprisingly complicated to find.  Apparently, the first floor of the library is at the fourth floor of the hotels parking garage, and it was kinda hard to find.  Fortunately we did find it.  The Nashville library is officially the coolest library I’ve ever been in!! It has a grand reading room on the 3rd floor, where people can just sit and read! Unfortunately, however, their teen section is only open after 2:00 on school days…. L  Fortunately, there were still some teen books right outside the teen area.  I found a book called Countess Nobody, and proceeded to read the entire book. J
After this, mom and I had some snacks in the room.  I then watched the senior semi-finals, and figured out all sorts of random statistics about the competitors( I’ll probably do a separate post about that….) After the semi-finals, we ran into the Evans (Matthew and Hannah and their parents - -we’ve been friends since the 2005 National Spelling Bee), and Elyssa.  Elyssa asked me where I’d been all day – apparently they’d been having fun all day, and Hannah hadn’t texted me (she wasn’t sure of our plans for the day, and so didn’t want to ruin anything we had planned).   It turns out that I’d missed square dancing lessons – preparation for the square dance later that night.  J.
We hung out for a bit, then made plans to meet each other in front of the convention center’s Quiznos, before heading down to the square dance, at 7:30.  Well…..let’s just say plans change.  The Evan’s were planning to go to Magiano’s, an Italian restaurant, and so weren’t sure if they’d make it back in time.  I was going to have some snacks, and then go down with Elyssa for the Hymn Sing.  Well…the Evan’s invited mom and I along, and so we ended up going.  I felt bad for abandoning Elyssa, but did want to continue our annual tradition of dinner with the Evans, started in 2005.
The dinner was delicious!! Matthew has made movies about a restaurant named Clyde’s in Washington D.C. – mystery movies.  I asked him if he was going to do the same thing at Magiano’s.  He said that it would be an interesting place to make a mobster mystery out of – I agree.  No word on if he’ll actually do that…. J  Dinner turned out to be a great place to catch up on a lot of the stuff that had happened in the last year, including the flooding of the Evan’s house.  It sounds like quite the adventure, although one that I’d prefer to skip.
Immediately after dinner, we headed back to the hotel for the square dance.  By the time we got there, it had already started.  We waited for the song that was playing to finish, and then joined in.  Elyssa and I had said that we each had to dance with Matthew at least once.  Elyssa dance with him first; I danced with her sister Ariana. After that dance, we had an actual square dance.  Matthew was my “partner”, and Olivia Guilliard (a semi-finalist from that afternoon), was my “corner”.  It was quite fun, and I learned the proper way to do-si-do.  J  I danced all of the dances after that (except for the 9 and younger dance), and had a great night!
Afterwards, Matthew wanted to continue to have fun – he didn’t want to go to bed (too many memories of the Spelling Bee, where we stayed up forever!).  So, we went to the elevator.  However, there were sooo many people, that we decided to take the stairs.  However, Matthew didn’t want to….but, was convinced when we said that we’d go all the way up to his family’s room on the 24th floor.  Note to self: NEVER wear heels when running up the stairs.  I ended up taking off my heels, and just running barefoot up the stairs - -quite fun.  WE then hung out upstairs for a few minutes, and then Elyssa and I left.  WE had told them that we weren’t going to take the stairs down; however, we figured that it would make a more interesting story if we did.  It goes sooo much faster when running down stairs!!
Once I got back to the room, I read some of Inheritance, and then went to bed.
