On Judgment

In Matthew 7:1, Jesus Christ tells us "judge not, that ye be not judged."   Everyone who professes to be a Christian, and who says they believe in the Bible is, by extension, saying that they believe that this verse is true.

If they truly believe that it is true, however, why do so many people judge others?  Oh sure, they'll claim that they'll doing it to "save their eternal souls", but, by doing so, they're breaking a commandment themselves.  What does that say about their eternal souls?

I recently read a blog post that echoes my own personal opinions on judging others....here's the link.

After you read this, please, I beg you, see if you're wrongfully judging others.  Look at your life, and how you treat people.  Read the "powerful responses" to this blog post.  See how hatred can lead people to depression, and even suicide.

Please, love others!  "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" -- everyone is your neighbor -- even those who might not make the best life decisions.

  1. I'm a bit confused; I've heard this sort of talk about judgment before and want to understand it... Would you mind defining "judgment" as you're using it here? Thanks for taking time to share.

  2. Sure! So, really I'm just referring to a tendency I've noticed. I've noticed that some people tend to..hmm...be a bit rude and prejudiced against those who are different from them. For example -- the Mormon pioneers -- they weren't doing anything wrong. The 1st Amendment guarantees the right to practice whatever religion you want. But people drove them out of at least 3 places because they were afraid they'd like take over the government or something. Really I'd just like to encourage people to not 'judge a book by it's cover'. People can feel strongly about a certain issue, but it doesn't define who they are. If people take the time to find out more about people and their beliefs, I think there'd be a lot less conflict.
